It’s been a long and grueling off season but football is back, baby!

Our reward for making it to this point? A Thursday night showdown between Patrick Mahomes and the defending Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs against Deshaun Watson and the Houston Texans.

Both quarterbacks have emerged as the faces of the league and secured unprecedented contracts this summer. Mahomes with one of the largest in sport’s history worth $450 million and Watson with a cool as the other side of the pillow four-year, $160 million extension just a few days ago.

As I’ve admitted in the past, I typically can’t get into the NFL too much outside of how it benefits me personally in fantasy football. (Hey, I’m honest) I don’t have a true connection to any particular team but I pull for the Carolina Panthers with them being the “home team”. I also root for former Clemson players and enjoyed following the career of my fellow Presbyterian College alum and Pro Bowler, Justin Bethel who now plays for the New England Patriots.

It is rare that I watch a regular season NFL game on television from start to finish but I thoroughly look forward to this one. While I hate we won’t get to see any Watson to DeAndre Hopkins touchdowns this year, I look forward to seeing what Houston can put together.

Likewise, I can’t wait to see Kyler Murray have fun airing it out with Hopkins out West. Finally, how will the Chiefs fair in defending their Super Bowl crown in what promises to be a season unlike any other we’ve seen?

Hopefully we get those questions answered at some point or another this season. Thursday Night Football with the Champions against Deshaun Watson and company…..
